Rahul Bhasin is the Managing Partner of Baring Private Equity Partners India and a Senior Partner and Global Board Member of Baring Private Equity Partners (BPEP) International. Rahul is also a member of the Investment Committee at other Baring International Funds and has also been an advisory board member of the ING group in India. He serves on the boards of various companies funded by Baring in India, partnering with the entrepreneurs and senior management for building and growing their businesses. He has served as the Chairman of MphasiS BFL Limited and oversaw its transformation from a loss making to a profit making company, introduced transparency and corporate governance, facilitated a management change and drove a consolidation and bulking up strategy. The company enjoys a market cap in excess of $ 3.0 billion.
Prior to Baring, Rahul was part of the Asset Allocation Committee of Global Asset Management Group at Citibank, London. Besides his experience in the developed markets, he has actively invested in the emerging markets in Latin America, Eastern Europe, Russia, Asia and India. In addition to equity markets, he has also managed a portfolio of derivative securities in the developed markets. Prior to moving to London, he was the youngest Independent Treasurer at Citibank for Northern India. Rahul is an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
Varun has been with Baring since 2010 and has 30+ years of multi-asset investment experience. At Baring, he leads the investment practice across real estate, retail, media, logistics and telecom sectors. He has spearheaded investments in RMZ Corp, Vardhman Textiles, Redington and Esskay Finance, and worked closely with the consumer goods team on the investment in Marico.
In his prior position, Varun set-up & led Citigroup Global Special Situations Group (proprietary investment arm) in India. Besides, he has also headed the Corporate Finance & Capital Markets Group for Citibank in South Asia.
Varun has made investments across the capital structure of companies & has execution experience across Credit & Market products – private & listed equity, loans, bonds, convertibles, structured instruments, export & agency finance and securitization.
Varun is a Mathematics graduate from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai and an MBA from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.
Arul has been with Baring since 2010 and leads investments in auto, technology, manufacturing and media sectors. He has been actively involved in recommending investments in RMZ Corp, Embassy Office Parks, Lohum CleanTech, Marico, Matrimony.com, Homelane and Toch AI. He has over 19+ years of combined investment experience.
Prior to Baring, Arul was with Citigroup for seven years, working in corporate finance and investment management roles. He was part of the Global Special Situations Group (GSSG) for three years, focused on High Yield Credit. While at Citi, he has also worked with the origination and structuring desk.
Arul is a B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur and an MBA from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.
Mitali has been with Baring since 2007. She has 15+ years of combined investment experience & leads investments across consumer durables, capital goods, building materials, logistics and energy sectors. She has been actively involved with investments in Century Plyboards, Homelane, Redington, Matrimony.com, NBCC, and other public market deals. Mitali is also on the Board of Directors of Infrasoft Tech. Mitali also serves as the Chief Economist for Baring and heads the Deal Origination practice. Under her guidance, over the last eight years, the deal origination team has sourced investment opportunities over US$ 50 billion.
Prior to Baring, Mitali worked with Portelet Management (now Moravia Capital AG) in Switzerland and India where she was involved in the distribution of PE/ VC/ Hedge funds and syndication of equity transactions for European funds and corporate clients.
Mitali holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from Mumbai University, an MBA from Cardiff Business School, UK and a Diploma in Finance from the London School of Economics (LSE), UK.
Mitali is an avid mountaineer, a trained bharatnatyam dancer and a black belt in tae-kwon-do
Debanshi joined Baring in 2009. She has 17+ years of combined investment experience and leads investments in Financial Services, FinTech & Agri-inputs sectors. She has been actively involved with investments in Manappuram, Muthoot, Esskay, Acko and other public markets. She has also overseen the portfolio management of companies like Manappuram, Muthoot, Esskay and Inditrade. She is a BOD member of Esskay Fincorp and Infrasoft Tech.
She has strong M&A execution experience across mid-market deals e.g. Walt Disney's acquisition of UTV, acquisition of E-serve in the media & outsourcing space. Besides, she also helped raise equity and debt capital for large business conglomerates in India, including Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Infosys.
In her prior position, Debanshi was part of the original team of Goldman Sachs’ Investment Banking practice in Mumbai, where she worked across sectors like general manufacturing, large industrial, IT and commercial banks, and spent about 6 years with them. Prior to this, she was with Ernst & Young, involved in conducting statutory audits and internal control assessments for mid-cap listed & private companies.
Debanshi is a qualified Chartered Accountant with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Osmania University. She has completed CFA Level II.
Jugal joined Baring in 2016. He heads the accounting, compliance, finance, and risk management functions.
Prior to Baring, he worked at Kotak Life Insurance, analysing the financial institutions group credit life insurance policies. Previously, he has also worked at Deloitte in the Audit & Assurance department, participating in several statutory and tax audits with a special focus on financial institutions.
Jugal is pursuing Chartered Accountancy. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Mumbai University.
Rama has been with Baring since 2008 and is responsible for accounting, compliance, finance, and risk management systems and processes.
In his prior position, he worked for more than 8 years at Glaxo Smithkline Consume Healthcare Limited in the Taxation department, participating in Indirect tax and Direct Tax with a special focus on Litigation Management.
Rama is a Company Secretary, MBA (part-time), B.Com & PG Diploma in Public Relations from Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan, New Delhi.
Ruchi joined the team in 2018. She is responsible for finance, accounting and compliance.
In her prior position, she worked at ICICI Bank as a part of the Financial Accounting & Reporting Group involved in RBI reporting, product accounting and office accounts monitoring. Previously, she has also worked at Haresh Kothari & Associates (a Chartered Accountancy firm), participating in Project Finance & Retail Loans.
Ruchi is a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelors degree in Commerce from Mumbai University.
Ipsita joined the team in 2021 and is responsible for the top-down sector analysis of industries pertaining to new & disruptive technologies.
Prior to Baring, she worked as an investment analyst with Goldman Sachs Asset Management where she looked at sectors like Utilities, Real Estate, Banks/Financials. Before that, she served as a scientist for a super-computing program of the Govt. of India, New Delhi.
She holds an MBA from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad and a BS-MS Dual Degree from Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER), Kolkata. During her MBA, she interned with Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Mumbai in their Equity Research division. She has also been the recipient of awards like Goldman Sachs Women Emerging in Finance and YesBank Future Ready Scholars program.
Nirabhi joined the team in 2021 and is responsible for research of different industries & assisting in the evaluation of investments in the Healthcare sector.
In her prior position, she worked in the Prime Services division at Credit Suisse. She has previously interned with ExxonMobil, EY and the Council of Science & Technology.
She has a B.E. in Chemical Engineering and an M.Sc. in Economics from BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus. She is the recipient of Citibank Women Leadership Award and Scholarship.
Shalini has been with Baring since 2007, working as an Executive Assistant here. Previously, she has worked with different International NGO’s and has a combined work experience of over 20 years.
Shalini holds a Diploma in Secretarial & Office Management from Vocational Training Institute, Delhi.
